Birthmother Code: KP1

State: North Carolina
Age: 20
Race: Caucasian/African American
Due Date: 1/23/09
Gender of Baby: GIRL

Drugs/Alcohol: By self report -- No smoking. No alcohol. Smoked marijuana once at beginning of pregnancy; otherwise, no street drugs.

Major medical/Mental health: No known issues with either birthmother or birthfather. Birthmother has been seen at the hospital emergency room (ultrasound, labs) and has had some appointments at the health department. She is willing to apply for Medicaid and get continued prenatal care from this point. She has been taking prenatal vitamins.

Birthfather information: Birthfather is 21 years old. African American. He is currently on active duty military service in Iraq. He knows birthmother is pregnant. She told him that she was considering adoption and he will support this plan.

Fee: Estimated cost of this adoption is $20,000, including birthmother expenses, legal fees, agency fees, and ICPC filing (if necessary).

Comments: Birthmother currently has a one-year-old son and doesn’t feel able to take care of another child. She had planned to place the baby with a family member, but grew increasingly uneasy with the closeness of that match and would rather have an un-related family adopt the child. She would probably like a semi-open/semi-closed adoption. She is open to a traditional couple or a single parent, preferably with not too many children.
